Bawdsey Development

Development Overview:  Cavell Close, Bawdsey – A Coastal Retreat

Guide to PropertiesCavell Close is an exclusive development in a unique setting.  It consists of 12 homes, designed by local award winning architects Mullins Dowse. Each home has been designed with much thought and care to compliment the unique surroundings. The unspoilt coastal village of Bawdsey is the perfect location to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this beautiful Suffolk countryside location is one of the region’s most tranquil and rural settings on the Heritage Coast.  Cavell Close (named after the famous nurse Edith Cavell, whose grandparents lived in Bawdsey) is located on East Lane, just a short walk from the coast.

The village comprises approximately 500 homes, a friendly junior school, a small church and a recreation ground including a cricket pitch, pavilion and tennis courts.  Only a mile away in the neighbouring village of Alderton there is a village shop, medical centre and public house.

Bawdsey Quay is a picturesque haven, untouched by commercialism.  Sailing is popular here and the village has its’ own yacht club.  A ferry is available during the summer months to transport you the short distance across to Felixstowe to explore further. The famous Bawdsey Manor Estate, built circa 1886 by Sir Cuthbert Quilter, is an imposing building providing a glorious setting for a range of educational and recreational pursuits.  It is open to the public during the

Bawdsey Radar Station is where the radar was first developed and tested between the two world wars.  It is open for exhibitions from April to September and well worth a visit. Not far away is Sutton Hoo, home to the famous Anglo Saxon Royal burial ship, being one of the most important archaeological finds in the country.

Within easy reach is Snape Maltings, the world famous concert hall with music and arts events throughout the year - also popular for its’ many shops, restaurants and galleries. Some of the most beautiful landscape in the region can be found on the Heritage Coast with many walks.  The area also has many equestrian centres and off road riding is available nearby to take advantage of the beautiful scenery. Close by (only 10 minutes or so by car) is the market town of Woodbridge with its many attractions and amenities including rail connections to London, Norwich and Cambridge.  The County town of Ipswich is only 18 miles away.
The village is also within easy reach of the A12 and A14.
